Meditation
Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 PM

Practicing meditation offers participants the opportunity to hone their attention and awareness in the present moment, giving them access to what may be referred to as “clear deep heart-mind” or a state of mind which fosters clarity, relaxation and resilience.

“By dropping into our inner silence, embracing compassion, and developing a greater understanding of equanimity toward everything life brings will yield new opportunities for acceptance and joy,” - Don Sorterup

First time meditators are welcome.  A suggested donation of $10 is accepted at each weekly class. The Peace Gallery will provide the $10 suggested donation for veterans.

Don Sorterup

Don Sorterup has been practicing meditation since 2015, beginning his path of Buddhist study with the international Rinzai Zen sangha, Hollow Bones in 2017 when taking Jukai or “lay” Buddhist vows. Ordained as a priest on June 24th, 2022, Don has spent the last five years engaged in his own daily meditation practice, formal Zen studies, and leading zazen meditation practice virtually. He has led in-person meditation since September of 2021, and is the founder of the ZendoME Zen Buddhist sangha of Damariscotta, which offers bi-weekly sangha meetings.

Don shares the insights developed during his daily ‘zazen’ concentration meditation practice to lead others in developing their own attention and awareness. With his calm and supportive presence, meditation students gain access to what may be called “clear, deep heart-mind”, or a state of mind which fosters clarity, relaxation and resilience.
